Engagement Ring

Soooooo decided to propose....

Spent many, many months making this ring. Not so much in the time it physically took to sculpt it, but more so changing the design, the look and so forth. It went through many iterations and changes as after a couple months fiddling around, "pretending to stay up late to play games" I was getting a design i kinda liked. Then she suggested we could go out and look at rings together. Perfect. So I discovered what she did and didn't like, and what suited her when she tried them on, so whilst my main idea's concepts didnt change hugely, I did do quite a number of adjustments to better suit an actual ring. I also made note that she wanted gold specifically, and that she didnt give a shit about diamonds.

Then I got shapeways to create a prototype of the ring in bronze, was like $12USD + shipping and had to wait a month. At this point, i was like, sod it, i'll just get her to try it on and make sure it fits, because I'm sure as hell not gonna spend so much money on something that may not even be sized right and that she might not like, because who do i even return it to? lol. Anyways she liked it and gave it the go ahead.

I then approached a jeweller in Toronto (https://hplafaurie.ca/) who we worked together to make sure that the ring was structurally sound to be created into a proper ring. She sourced the stones, created the ring with her colleague, polished and set the stones in, voilah!

Happy days.

The final iteration of the design, I think I made about 5 different designs, but I just overwrote them or scrapped them as well they just were kinda bad.... tho i do regret that now as it would be kinda fun to look at the crappy versions.

The ring on the right is the prototype. The ring was made by 3d printing the zbrush sculpt I made in wax, then reverse moulded it into a cast, which then was filled with the gold, that was taken and refined by her.

I only have a little compact camera, nothing fancy so please excuse the colours on the ring and the difficulty I had getting a close up shot.

I think for the first time ive really noticed strange artifacting when trying to take something bright and up close as there is no way there are that many colours reflecting.
